LaFayette Central School District’s Grimshaw Elementary Library renovation was selected as the “People’s Choice Award” at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) CNY’s Celebration of Architecture. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Nicholas Signorelli, Principal, and Rachael Patricoski, Associate Principal, presented “From Static to Dynamic: How Jamesville-Dewitt is Changing the Classroom Experience” at the 2023 NYSSBA Annual Convention & Expo in Buffalo, NY. Joining them for the presentation was Dr. Peter Smith, Superintendent of Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District. Ashley McGraw’s presentation discussed a series of new spaces at Jamesville Dewitt Middle School that challenge the idea of the static classroom and create a flexible spatial toolset for instructors to support evolving learning modalities and methodologies.

Schuster Presents at Advancing Construction Decarbonization Summit in Denver

Andrew Schuster, Principal, presented “From the Design Phase to Construction of a Net Zero Building: How We Built the Sustainable Energy Fund Office Building” at the Advancing Construction Decarbonization Summit in Denver, Colorado. He co-presented with John Costlow, Chief Executive Officer, of The Sustainable Energy Fund. The summit ran from July 31-August 2 and “united over 100 sustainability and project leaders from contracting firms across North America to solve and advance carbon reduction developments.”

Angarano Presents at SUNY PPAA Summer Conference in Rochester, NY

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Susanne Angarano presented “Designing Spaces for the Whole Student” at the 2023 SUNY PPAA/NYAPPA Summer Conference in Rochester, New York. Angarano, Principal / Senior Interior Designer, examined case studies of three separate renovation projects: Schine Student Center at Syracuse University, Silverman Hall at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and the Campus Center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The presentation discussed how each project “calls for enhanced environments to foster collaboration, discovery, and socially dynamic and diverse spaces.”

The AIANYS Excelsior Awards program, celebrating its ninth year, highlights the best in publicly funded buildings, outdoor areas, and public art across New York State and the professionals who support and advocate for them. The Binghamton University Science IV Renovation / Deep Energy Retrofit received an Honor Award, representing the highest level of achievement, at the Excelsior Awards ceremony on May 4, 2023 in Albany, New York. Mid-Century buildings are commonplace on campuses across the nation, yet many are energy hogs, far from code-compliant, and are hardly conducive to 21st century learning. By renovating the interiors of these facilities to make vibrant new academic environments and transforming the building envelopes and mechanical systems to significantly reduce operating costs, revitalized mid-century buildings such as Science IV can play a positive role in campus life for decades to come.
