Ashley McGraw Architects was honored and humbled by the announcement at the 2023 New York State Green Building Conference on March 3, 2023 that the annual Green Building Advocate of the Year award has been named after David Ashley. Moving forward, the David C. Ashley Green Building Advocate of the Year award will continue to be given to an individual involved in green building, either in a professional or volunteer capacity, and is prominent in promoting the need to "reduce the overall impact of the built environment on humans and the natural environment.”

In Memoriam: David C. Ashley

On December 24, 2022, we lost one of the founders of Ashley McGraw Architects, David Ashley. Ashley was an architect, environmentalist, writer, and visionary. In David’s own words, he “believed strongly in the worth and dignity of all living things and of the planet, its natural resources, and the sun that supports us all.” In 1980, he decided to launch his own firm, Ashley Associates, which in 1993 became Ashley McGraw Architects when Ed McGraw became Dave’s partner. Together, they grew Ashley McGraw Architects into an award-winning design firm and an early leader in New York State in the field of sustainable design.

Binghamton University Science IV Renovation Earns AIA CNY Award of Excellence

On November 12, 2022, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Central New York Chapter held their annual Celebration of Architecture Design Awards. The Science IV renovation at Binghamton University was recognized with an Award of Excellence, the design awards highest honor. The awards jury said: “Beautiful facade, creates great places for people to hangout and gather, excellent rework of an existing building honoring and integrating the structure, moved by the facade renovation.” Binghamton University, in conjunction with the State University Construction Fund (SUCF), commissioned Ashley McGraw Architects to re-envision the building as a new campus icon that welcomes visitors to the campus and sciences complex, in a modern, cohesive and energy efficient way.

Liverpool High School Fine Arts Renovation Earns AIA CNY Award of Merit

On November 12, 2022, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Central New York Chapter held their annual Celebration of Architecture Design Awards. The Fine Arts renovation at Liverpool High School was recognized with an Award of Merit. The awards jury said: “Stunning, restrained, impactful landscaping that opened up the exterior space, new exterior paneling freshens up the space, wood elements bring warmth to the space.” By reimagining the Performing Arts spaces, the Liverpool High School not only has a state-of-the-art facility that reflects the exceptionalism that is their current program but also fosters excitement within the students to develop an interest in pursuing lifelong learning in the performing arts.
