Peabody Terrace Children’s Center Playscape
Water, sand, and sensory-rich landscapes transform the outdoor environment into a place where children can explore, experiment, and connect with nature.Located at the base of the architecturally significant “Sert” building design by Josep Sert, Harvard University was particularly sensitive that the design of the play areas fit in with the building’s architecture.
Our Landscape Department worked with staff, parents, and the children to re-imagine the 6,050 SF Peabody Terrace Children’s Center’s three outdoor areas to support their pedagogical goals. The design of the play spaces included a variety of play opportunities for each age group. As well, we designed custom-storage structures that would complement the patterning of the building.
