The AIANYS Excelsior Awards program, celebrating its eighth year, highlights the best in publicly funded buildings, outdoor areas and public art across New York State and the professionals who support and advocate for them. Nine projects were recognized for an award in the categories of Renovation/Addition and New Construction. The Binghamton City School District Benjamin Franklin Elementary Ground Floor Renovation project was recipient for a 2022 Excelsior Award of Merit. The recipients were honored at an in-person celebration in Albany, NY on May 4, 2022.

She has over 5 years of professional design experience for K-12, higher education, and community spaces; including projects at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District, Phoenix Central School District, Solvay Union Free School District, Weedsport Central School District, Syracuse University, and Cadaret Grant & Co. Madison earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Environmental & Interior Design at Syracuse University (2016). In addition to excelling in the classroom and design studio, Madison was a member of the women’s lacrosse team.

She has over 3 years of professional experience in architectural design and drawing, particularly for commercial and residential spaces. The Liverpool Central School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Fine Arts wing renovation on Monday, March 21. The primary goals of the renovation at the start of the project were to reimagine their Performing Arts facility to not only be a state-of-the-art facility that reflects the exceptionalism that is their current program - but also foster excitement within the students to develop an interest in pursuing lifelong learning of the performing arts.

An intern for several years at Ashley McGraw, Jun’s architectural rendering and visualization skills have been a major asset to the firm with his work on noteworthy projects including Syracuse University’s Schine Student Center, Binghamton University’s Nuthatch Hollow Living Building, Groton Central School District’s New STEAM Learning Center, and SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Silverman Hall.

Calvin Ahn, Principal, presented on the LEED Platinum and Net Zero ready Binghamton City School District MacArthur Elementary School as part of Getting to Zero’s 21st Century Schools: Cleaner and Greener on December 8. The virtual offering, sponsored by NYSERDA and enVerid, in tandem with the Getting to Zero Forum dove deep into the steps for getting to zero, how to lay out a plan, and provide the template materials available to support school districts on this path to full decarbonization.
