Anne Coghlan Play Garden
The reimagined play garden builds on Cunningham Park's legacy by creating engaging, accessible spaces for children and families to enjoy together.Cunningham Park, in Milton, MA is a beloved park space for the Town of Milton, MA. Families have spent many summer days at the Cunningham Pool, played baseball on their fields and have walked its nature trails for over 75 years.
The Children’s Play Garden at Cunningham Park transformed a sparse, outdated children’s play area into an exciting new play space for children and families. The new play garden introduced nature-themed play elements, taking inspiration from an existing “spider” climber that we had refurbished and re-painted, and brought to current playground safety standards. New play elements included a “ladybug” climber, embankment slides, a boulder climb, “daisy” swings, a willow hut, and a pergola- covered gathering and picnic area. An accessible path winds through sensory plantings connecting the top of the hill and the slide down to the lower play space.
The new play experiences and the play space will become part of childhood memories for the Town of Milton’s children and families.
