Binghamton CSD Hosts Grand Opening Ceremony for MacArthur Elementary

The Binghamton City School District held a public opening of MacArthur Elementary School on April 27, 2016. Although students have been attending the newly constructed school since November 2015, the event was the public’s first chance to visit the building. There was a short ceremony and ribbon-cutting, and attendees were then invited to take a self-guided tour. MacArthur Elementary was destroyed in the 2011 flood. The rebuilt school is designed to withstand a future flood, and features geothermal and solar energy, saving 75 percent of energy costs over a similar-sized building run on traditional energy sources.
