Boston Collegiate Charter School. Dorchester, MA
Boston Collegiate Charter School, serving 700 students in grades 5–12, expanded its campus by acquiring the adjacent 13,000-square-foot lot at 21 Mayhew Street. This expansion project aimed to enhance the school’s outdoor space and provide dedicated off-street parking for staff and families.
The newly acquired site previously housed a 2½-story single-family residence built in the 1860s. Site improvements included the abatement and demolition of the existing structure and foundation, disconnection of utilities, removal of invasive and damaged trees, and installation of a new curb cut and drainage infrastructure.
The redesigned site now features a large synthetic turf area for lawn games and recreation, upgraded lighting and fencing, and a repaved parking lot that includes electric vehicle charging stations. Landscaping incorporates native New England plant species, supported by a sustainable drip irrigation system. Together, these enhancements provide a safe, functional, and environmentally responsive space that supports the school community.
