HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM TRANSFORMATION
SAUQUOIT VALLEY CSD
“Creating opportunities for our children as they prepare for their lives in the 21st Century is a noble and worthy investment for our school district,” stated Sauquoit Valley Central School District Superintendent Ronald Wheelock as the district embarked on a $19.9 million capital project.
A major scope item included the renovation and expansion of the high school auditorium, which has only undergone cosmetic renovations and upgrades to lighting and sound since being built in 1932. The expansion allowed for a larger stage with fly space, the addition of 100+ seats, and improved sight lines from the now two-tiered balcony. New seats with ADA accessibility, lighting system, sound system, rigging systems, and stage curtain were also added. To double as a testing hall for New York State Regents exams, 100 flip-top tablet arms were added to the theater to maximize the programming of the space.
This project focused around enhancing the music education and performance spaces for the growing music and drama departments of the high school. A complete renovation of the current band and choral teaching areas reallocated the existing space and transformed the environment into a state of the art and high performing music suite. This also included support spaces such as practice rooms, instrument storage, and offices. The spaces are outfit with various acoustical treatments to fine tune the sound performance, durable flooring materials, and designed to optimize natural daylight into the space and how the music suite operates within the larger facility. To top off the project, new music chairs and stands, and teaching podium were provided.
Aside from multiple roof projects and work to infrastructure, the second largest component of the Capital Project was renovating the High School’s fitness center. The fitness center’s footprint was doubled in size and new cardio and weight equipment were added. The community also has access to the fitness center after school hours.
