THEATER / ART GALLERY RENOVATIONS
BINGHAMTON CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

This project completed in 2010 consisted of alterations to the Helen Foley Theater, which was the central part of the original 1914 four-story Binghamton High School. Work scope at the theater included new angled ADA seating, guard rails, carpeting, painting, aisle lighting, stage curtains and lighting. The original stained-glass lenses for pendant light were reconstructed, and dimmer-controlled back lighting was added above it to enable theatrical lighting effects. A catwalk was added above the mezzanine for access to house lights and stained-glass panels.

The existing open art gallery adjacent to the auditorium was reconstructed to provide security for the gallery while retaining transparency. The main entries to the auditorium were reconfigured as vestibules to provide sound isolation. The original high school entrance was converted into a reception area. Both the reception area and gallery can adjoin for larger public events.

The effect of this project was to restore the Helen Foley Theater as the vibrant core and source of pride for the high school, school district and local community.
